Jaber (Al-Mahjoub Jaber)

Tunisia, 1938 - France, 2021

Born in Tunisia in 1938, Jaber settled in Paris twenty years later where he performed a range of circus activities and became a well-known and iconic person in the streets of Paris. Jaber’s paintings are made up of a complex universe of symbols, shapes and colours, creating compositions where the naïf and popular prevail. He was discovered by Jean Dubuffet who considered him to be one of the last “outsider artists”, according to his original concept.
